Lavender Essential Oil: Lavandula Angustifolia Flower Oil

Never ingest or apply undiluted essential oils to the skin.

Lavender oil is perhaps the most well known and well used essential oil due to its multiple beneficial properties and ease of blending with so many other oils.

Historically lavender was used for mummification, culinary purposes and perfumery by Egyptians and used by the Romans for bathing and scenting of linens and body. It is referenced in the bible as a part of oils of anointing and has also been used by churches and within strewn straw on floors for aroma during the middle ages. Plague doctors used it within their masks as an attempt to guard against infection.

At the turn of the century, René Maurice Gattefossé successfully used lavender oil to treat a burn. As a chemist, perfumer, and creator of the word Aromatherapy, his subsequent interest in the medicinal aspects of essential oils led to further investigation and collaborative use by medics during war.

Relaxing, calming, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and with a regulating effect on all skin types it deserves its spot as one of the most essential of essential oils.
