Most of us know that feeling when our most precious little ones are getting ready to go back to school. Where can I get the required uniform at the best cost? How many hours am I and my family likely to have to wait in the shoe shop? Should I take a picnic?
Well getting back into the bedtime routine is also a huge headache for many families. Children want to be up when you want them to sleep and often want to sleep when you want them to be up, let’s be honest, us adults are much the same. How many times a week do we look at the clock and think I’d better go to bed, or I won’t be able to get up on time tomorrow. Then at the weekend have a late night or two and a little lie in, mini ones permitting, come Monday morning, it’s hard! Well, the school holidays are often like long weekends for children. Breaking that late night and lie in habit is so very hard but just necessary. Well, we have come up with a plan which just might help.
Pillow/Room Spray
400ml Formulators or Perfumers alcohol
100ml Water boiled and cooled
These sprays can be used to create a calming, relaxing atmosphere in a bedroom, both children’s and adults.
Just keep the addition level low for use in a child’s room and do not over spritz or spray directly onto the pillow where their face will have direct contact. Try underneath a pillow or a cushion / curtain in the room (test on fabrics before use as some oils can cause discolouration). During the winter cold and flu season, mix the lavender with a little peppermint essential oil which can aide sleep with easier breathing.
Monsters Away spray* is perfect if your youngster believes the monsters prowl their bedroom at night. We used a little perfumer’s alcohol in a spray bottle with a cute monster image on the label and clear Monsters Go Away text. Fragrances such as strawberry or orange are often popular with children and a quick spritz in the wardrobe or under the bed with this ‘magic spray’ can help them settle.
There are many small fairy doors available which are often attached to trees or fencing in the garden for decoration. Pop one of these on a skirting board in easy view so the special sleep fairies come and go and keep watch over night. Of course, these guardian fairies are magical so you can’t actually see them.
