Sodium Thiosulphate: Vanilla Colour Stabiliser.

Sodium thiosulphate is a water-soluble chemical compound which acts as an antioxidant preventing the colour change commonly seen when adding fragrance oils containing vanillin to soaps, creams and lotions.

Our vanilla stabiliser can also be used in both bath bombs and cold process soaps. It needs to be made into a liquid and then used in bath bombs added with the fragrance oil.
For CP soap, add the mix to the lye solution then continue as normal.

Sodium thiosulphate helps prevent discoloration in cosmetics, and particularly soaps, ensuring the product retains its desirable creamy and light amber hue.

This is a colourless crystal that should be mixed as needed.

Mix  1 part crystal to 3 parts water, then use 1-2% in final products.

Function: In the context of vanilla colour stabilization, sodium thiosulphate neutralizes sulfur-based compounds and other reactive agents in the environment that could lead to the oxidation of vanillin.

Usage Recommendations:

  • Sodium thiosulphate is typically added in small amounts (usually in the range of 0.01–0.05% of the total formulation), depending on the sensitivity of the vanilla product.
  • Care should be taken to mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution without affecting the overall texture of the product.

Conclusion: Sodium thiosulphate is a powerful tool for manufacturers seeking to preserve the color and quality of vanilla-flavored products. Its ability to stabilize color, prevent oxidation, and extend shelf life makes it an essential ingredient in the food, beverage, and cosmetic industries, where maintaining product integrity is crucial
