Spirulina Organic Powder is a blue-green algae often used as a colourant for Soaps but it has many other benefits for both skin and hair.
Spirulina has become a popular ingredient in skin and haircare due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating properties. It is also extremely gentle when used in formulations for sensitive skin. Whether it’s in a cream, serum, or face mask, spirulina can help rejuvenate the skin without causing irritation or dryness, making it a suitable option for a wide range of skin types.
Benefits of using Spirulina in skin and haircare:
Rich in Nutrients: Spirulina is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals like A,B, and E vitamins, iron, magnesium, and essential fatty acids. These nutrients support overall skin health by promoting hydration, improving elasticity, and encouraging a healthy skin barrier. Regular use of spirulina in skincare products can result in smoother, more radiant skin.
Antioxidant & Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Spirulina contains powerful antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, that help protect the skin from environmental damage and free radicals, promoting a youthful and healthy complexion. Additionally, spirulina has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritated skin, making it beneficial for sensitive or inflamed skin conditions such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis.
Skin Detoxification & Hydration: Spirulina is known for its detoxifying properties, helping to cleanse the skin of toxins. Its ability to remove impurities makes it an excellent ingredient for products that focus on deep cleansing, such as facial masks or body scrubs. For those with dry or dull skin, spirulina acts as a natural moisturiser, helping to lock in hydration and restore the skin’s moisture balance. Its fatty acids form a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, preventing water loss while keeping the skin soft and hydrated.
Healthy Hair: Spirulina is equally beneficial when applied to haircare. Packed with proteins, amino acids, and vitamins like biotin, it helps strengthen hair, improve texture, and promote growth. Spirulina can be used in shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks to nourish the scalp, reduce dandruff, and restore hair’s natural shine.
Vibrant Colour and Aesthetic Appeal: Spirulina’s natural green hue can lend a beautiful earthy and natural colour in products
Using Spirulina in Soap Making.
Spirulina Organic Powder can be used in various forms but usually in soap making spirulina powder in preferred.
Cold Process Soap: In cold process soap making, spirulina powder can be added to the soap batter at trace. Add a small amount and build up as too much spirulina can turn your soap a dark green or even blue. For Hot Process, add the spirulina after the cook, again starting with a small amount.
Melt and Pour Soap: For melt and pour soap bases, dissolve the spirulina powder in a small amount of warm water or oil before adding it to the melted soap base. Stir well to ensure that the powder is evenly distributed.
We suggest testing small batches first to achieve the colour you want. The green colour of spirulina can vary, and may darken over time as the soap cures.
