Sodium Citrate Dihydrate

Sodium Citrate Dihydrate, sometimes known as trisodium citrate (trisodium has no water molecules but Dihydtrate has 2)  is an Eco-Friendly, Biodegradeable and non-toxic product. It is a versatile ingredient often used in cleaning products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and even food.

This product is the sodium salt of citric acid and functions as a chelating agent (grabs tiny traces of metal ions in water and holds onto them), therefore softens water and balances PH

In cosmetics and personal care products, trisodium citrate is used as a buffering agent to maintain the pH of formulations and as a preservative to prevent microbial growth.

It can also be a useful addition to carpet cleaners, laundry powders, hard surface cleaners, toliet cleaners etc.

It boosts cleaning by softening water which allows surfactiants to work better which, in turn, improves cleaning.

This also acts as a mild buffer, keeping water slightly alkaline which is necessary but still keeps water within safe limits.

Sodium Citrate Dihydrate is often added to dishwashing powders and detergents at approximately 5-15% of the total recipe.

This product also helps to prevent white spots and streaks on dishes and glassware.

Soluble in water but not in alcohol.

This should not be used on varnished or aluminium surfaces as it may discolour or damage the surface.

Always wear gloves when handling as this product can cause skin irritation.
